Beach Escapes in ThailandAo Phai Beach Escape, Ko Samet
Ko Samet has long been a favorite of Bangkokians and foreigners in need of sun, sea and sand. Located about 200km southeast of Bangkok, it’s one of the closest tropical islands to the Big Mango, which is partly responsible for its popularity. Covering just over 13 square kilometers, Samet is one of driest islands in Thailand making it an ideal beach destination year round. Its beaches are some of the nicest in the Kingdom with sand that’s as soft as icing sugar. Tourism started to take off here in the mid-1980’s with Thais flocking to Samet’s sandy beaches in droves, outnumbering foreigners even today. As part of a national park, new bungalows and accommodations can only be built to replace existing structures, so in theory, the island’s population should not grow significantly – there’re no buildings higher than two stories here! The island has a great network of pathways and dirt roads for exploring and plenty of unspoiled beaches to waste the days away. This unescorted extension includes return private van/speedboat transport from Bangkok to Ko Samet, air conditioned deluxe accommodation, breakfast daily and our handy Smiling Albino Adventure Kit full of tips to help you make the most of your time.
