For several years now Smiling Albino and our volunteers have kept the ‘Smiling Albino Community’ growing strong. This is a very big part of our business and now we've come up with something new.
While visiting tsunami-affected areas in southern Thailand in 2004 and talking with locals about the devastating events of December 26, 2004, we were struck by the fact that so many lives are forever changed – especially those of children that terrible day. The lifelong challenge such young persons face is hard to fathom. Their recovery will take more than a new home, new school or even a few years, but a lifetime.
Around this time we were also chatting with our longtime friend Sa-ngiam Yarangsee, a famous Thai painter, about doing a piece for a new Smiling Albino t-shirt. He then kindly suggested making a painting to raise money to assist kids orphaned during the tsunami.
Smiling Albino has been accepting donations and created scholarships for two hard working students, Big and Gift. We aim to provide financial support that covers their schooling costs from the start of the new school term in fall 2006 until the end of their formal education in college. The cost for uniforms, books, supplies, lunch and tuition is $140US for an entire school year. That means we can start a trust fund each time we collect $1,680US.
You're welcome to donate any amount of money, but for every increment of $50US we'll send you a Smiling Albino 'Supporting Rural Students in Thailand' T-Shirt. $10US covers the cost of production and mailing it to you. That leaves a profit of $40US per-shirt sent. Smiling Albino is donating all time required to produce these shirts, get them to you and establish the trust funds, leaving 100% of profits for the students – it’s that simple. For donations of $300US or more, we'll also send you an 8x10 print of the painting!
So, how can you get one you ask?
Deposit any amount or $50US for each t-shirt you would like to receive into one of our bank accounts (listed below) or pay online with PayPal. Then send us an email at tshirt@smilingalbino.com, letting us know your mailing address, how many t-shirts you donated money for, on what day you made the deposit and that’s it. After confirming your donation we’ll ship them to you. Roughly two weeks later you’ll be strutting with style in your brand new t-shirt.
