A longtime friend of the Smiling Albino team, we originally met Khun Jib on our first trip to Chiang Khong way back in 1999. After running a snooker hall for many years in the heart of Bangkok with the love of his life Khun Daew, they decided they wanted a quieter life. They searched the kingdom and decided to build a guesthouse from scratch on the banks of the Mekong River in the sleepy town of Chiang Khong. Years of hard work paid off and their property gained legendary status in the Thailand travel world. Not only for their stylish jungle bungalows but also for Khun Daew’s incredible food – especially her Mexican delights. The quintessential social animal and host, Jib is likely one of the best-known characters in northern Thailand among travelers and certainly the most loved. His passion to entertain, play guitar and enjoy beer with friends makes him a favorite for most visitors to this charming town. If you’re hanging with Jib you’ve definitely arrived.
