Smiling Albino – Community Coordinator

Hanging with Roger at Highland Farm
|
Originally from Foam Lake, SK, Lori has always loved working with people.
This led her to study Remedial Massage Therapy in Regina, SK, then practice in Lethbridge, AB, while saving to further her studies.
With a passion for the environment and a natural ability to lead, she completed a Bachelor of Applied Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership in 2005 at Mount Royal College (MRC), Calgary, AB, graduating with honors and flying colors. Among her many scholarships and bursaries, she was awarded one of Canada’s premier scholarships, the ‘Canadian Millennium Excellence Award’ for her dedication to volunteering.
It was this passion and her adventurous spirit that led her in 2005 to undertake a three-month field study with Smiling Albino in Thailand. During her time in the kingdom she got her hands into almost every part of SA, focusing her efforts on the SA Community. Her proudest achievement here was producing a new website for Highland Gibbon Sanctuary and getting a few stitches after scouting new mountain bike routes along the Thai-Myanmar border.
From mountain biking in the Canadian Rockies to conducting research in nature tourism and sustainability, Lori has managed to succeed in most things she puts her mind to.
It’s community development that interests her most, an area she has a good deal of experience with, including multiple summers spent facilitating a Youth Sustainability Forum for aboriginal youth at Cold Lake, AB, a community she returned to after graduating where she continues to work with indigenous communities.
Lori remains an integral part of the SA Team as our Community Coordinator, fielding volunteer emails and helping to keep this very rewarding part of our business running smoothly.
A yoga enthusiast and free-spirited lover of fun, Lori is usually smiling, laughing and getting the most out of life. On the odd occasion her spirits are down she can be found watching ‘Dumb & Dumber’, one of her cinematic favorites.
