Entry Requirements

Thailand has zoned it Covid-19 response to incoming travelers:

    • 1. Travelers from Disease Infected Zones: Mandatory quarantine 14-days at the accommodation address stated in the health form. Must present a health certificate issued no more than 72 hours before the flight departs clarifying there is “no risk of COVID-19” and health insurance covering Covid-19 treatment in Thailand, up to at least US$100,000 to the airline at the check-in counter to receive their boarding passes. (mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Italy, Iran and South Korea).Travelers from Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea are still eligible for a visa-free stay. Due to the suspension of the visa-on-arrival privilege, travelers from China need to apply for a visa in advance and show copies of the health certificate and travel insurance along with other documents at the embassy or consulate.Iranians need to apply for a visa at the nearest Thai embassy providing evidence of a health certificate and travel insurance. The same applies to Italian citizens after the visa-free stay privilege was suspended at the weekend.
    • 2. Travelers from countries with ongoing local transmission: Under observation not quarantine, they self-monitor for 14 days. It involves logging their symptoms through the app, or on paper and listing places visited during the 14 days. Must present a health certificate issued no more than 72 hours before the flight departs clarifying there is “no risk of COVID-19” and health insurance covering Covid-19 treatment in Thailand, up to at least US$100,000 to the airline at the check-in counter to receive their boarding passes. (Japan, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the UK and USA.)
    • 3. Travelers from the rest of the world: Free to roam but follow hygiene recommendations. Travelers from all other countries undergo standard entry and exit screening such as temperature and Thermoscan checks when embarking and disembarking from aircraft at all airports in Thailand. They are free to travel without restriction but advised to take the appropriate hygiene steps such as frequently washing hands, wearing a mask, avoid shaking hands and self-distance as much as possible.

Suspension of Visa on Arrival (VoA)

  • For the below countries, Visa on Arrival (VoA) will be suspended. Travelers from these countries can still travel to Thailand, however, they must obtain visas in their home countries at their local Thai embassy. Travelers will also be required to show a doctor’s certificate confirming they are not infected with the coronavirus.
    • Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia

  • As of 25 March: Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections rose to 934 with 70 recovered and 4 deaths.
  • As of 23 March: Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections rose to 721 with 52 recovered and 1 death.

  • Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections are now at 75 with 35 recovered and 1 death.
  • As of 12 March: Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections rose to 70 with 35 recovered and 1 death.
  • As of 10 March: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is requiring travelers from Covid-19 infected countries and territories to produce medical certificates prior to boarding their flights to Thailand to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said on Monday the CAAT has issued an official announcement, saying travelers from South Korea, China, Italy, Iran, Macau and Hong Kong who fail to show their health certificates to authorities before boarding their flights to Thailand will not be allowed to continue their journey. Upon arriving at Thai airports, they must present their health certificate along with a filled-out T8 form to disease control officials for verification, said Mr Saksayam. According to the minister, anyone found producing fake certificates to Thai health authorities will face legal action and mandatory quarantine.
  • As of 9 March: Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections rose to 50 with 31 recovered and 1 death.
  • After some contradictory information in the last couple days from Thailand Ministry of Public Health, a press conference was held 6 March at 2:30 pm in Bangkok during which they said they are “ADVISING”/“RECOMMENDING” self- or home-quarantine for 14 days for arrivals from countries highly infected with #COVID19, which were listed as South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy & Iran. It is NOT compulsory, but health officials have the right to send suspicious cases to quarantine.
  • As of 6 March: Thailand’s confirmed Covid-19 infections rose to 48 with 31 recovered and 1 death.
  • As of 2 March: Thailand has reported one new coronavirus case, bringing the total number of such cases in the country to 43 since January. Also on 2 March, one more Covid-19 patient has fully recovered. This discharge raised the number of fully recovered patients to 31.
  • As of 27 February: The number of infections remained at 40 while 27 have been cured and released.
  • As of 26 February: Thailand has confirmed three more novel coronavirus cases, taking the country’s total to 40.
  • Two of the new patients, all of whom were Thai nationals, had returned from vacation in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido and came into contact with the third patient, an 8-year old boy, said Sukhum Kanchanapimai, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health.
  • As of 25 February: The Ministry of Health said two more cases of Covid-19 infection were reported in Thailand, bringing the total tally to 37 since the outbreak began.
  • Fifteen infected patients are also being treated at hospitals, while 22 of the 37 patients have recovered, the health official said. The country has no report of any fatalities so far.
  • Thailand is now screening all incoming passengers from China.

  • The Public Health Ministry of Thailand has sought to still public fears over the coronavirus, a viral respiratory infection similar to SARS that originated in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, with assurances that measures are in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
  • On 13 February, the Department of Disease Control has reported that in Thailand there have been 25 confirmed coronavirus cases. The majority of the cases have been Chinese tourists from Hubei Province in which Wuhan is, the central Chinese city that is at the epicenter of the outbreak. Seven of these have already returned to China. One Thai national, who had visited Wuhan over the New Year holiday, contracted the disease while three other Thais are believed to have caught the virus in Thailand. All those infected are being treated at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute in Nonthaburi (near Bangkok).
  • The local government in Thailand and the tourism industry are taking precautions against the disease. Screenings are being done upon arrival at five airports and all flights from Wuhan have been blocked. A new automatic thermo-scanning, at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang international airports, has been activated as of 28 January, with all passengers arriving from China on all flights being subjected to the upgraded screening process. Mass transit operators including the Bangkok sky-train and subways are also increasing the frequencies of wipe downs and spraying disinfectants in trains, the Transport Ministry said.
